Keep four outlets inside a 10-inch rack with a compact 1U strip.
A rack is tidier when its power stops looking like a drawer full of spare cables. Choose the CyberPower PDU15B2F8R for straightforward 19-inch distribution, PDU15M2F8R to watch the load in amps, or PDU41001 to reboot individual outlets over your network. For a 10-inch mini rack, the Tupavco TP1713 fits the smaller rails.
Specifications and management features come from the makers’ documentation, checked October 25, 2026; load examples are calculated.
The quick picks
| What you want | Pick | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Tidy power in a 19-inch rack | CyberPower PDU15B2F8R | Ten outlets, no network controller to maintain |
| A load display you can glance at | CyberPower PDU15M2F8R | Front LCD shows the combined current in amps |
| Remote reboot and monitoring | CyberPower PDU41001 | Eight individually switched outlets, Ethernet, local web management and SNMP |
| Power inside a 10-inch rack | Tupavco TP1713 | Four outlets in a compact 1U strip |
The useful dividing line is basic vs metered vs switched. Basic distributes power. Metered adds a reading. Switched adds outlet control. A network socket on a monitored PDU does not automatically mean it can turn a server off and on; the PDU41001 explicitly supports that job.
Compare the four PDUs
| Choose it when | Model and specifications |
|---|---|
| You want tidy rack power for ten devices, without adding a network controller. | PDU15B2F8R: 10 NEMA 5-15R outlets (2 front, 8 rear); NEMA 5-15P input, 15A maximum. 15 ft cord; 19-inch 1U or vertical mounting; unfiltered distribution. |
| You want to glance at a display and see the rack’s total current in amps. | PDU15M2F8R: 10 NEMA 5-15R outlets (2 front, 8 rear); NEMA 5-15P input, 15A maximum. 15 ft cord; 19-inch 1U or vertical mounting; LCD amperage display. |
| You want to reboot a hung box over Ethernet and monitor the PDU locally. | PDU41001: 8 front NEMA 5-15R outlets; NEMA 5-15P input, 15A maximum / 12A derated. 12 ft cord; 19-inch 1U; LCD, Ethernet, HTTPS, SNMPv1/v3 and individual outlet switching. |
| You want four outlets inside a 10-inch mini rack, without needing a meter. | TP1713: 4 NEMA 5-15 outlets; maker label 110V/15A, US grounded plug shown. 6 ft cord; 10-inch 1U; overload protection, no metering or network control. |
The specifications are in CyberPower’s basic PDU sheet, metered PDU sheet, PDU41001 sheet and Tupavco’s TP1713 page. Tupavco pictures the grounded US plug but does not separately name its NEMA input type.
Basic pick: PDU15B2F8R
Buy the PDU15B2F8R when the rack already has the information you need from its UPS and you mostly want sensible outlet placement. Eight rear outlets keep equipment cords behind the rails, while two front outlets are handy for something you connect temporarily.
Its switch-free design removes the big master switch that someone can accidentally knock. The included cord-retention hardware helps keep connections organised, and the brackets let you choose horizontal or vertical placement.
This is also the straightforward choice when you plan to measure the rack separately. Pair the decision with our plug-in power-meter guide if you want a local watts-and-kWh readout without adding network management to the PDU itself.
A plain PDU does not add battery runtime. Its job is to distribute the power supplied to it; the UPS does the outage work.
Metered pick: PDU15M2F8R
Choose the PDU15M2F8R when a visible load reading will help you manage a growing rack. It keeps the same ten-outlet arrangement and 15-foot cord, then adds an LCD showing the total current.
That makes it easy to watch what happens when a server starts, a workload ramps up or another device joins the rack. You can see whether current is edging toward your planned limit without opening an app.
Its display reads amps, not watts or accumulated kWh. Amps are useful for electrical loading; real watts and energy are the inputs for your electricity bill. Use a watt/kWh meter for the always-on monthly-cost calculation, or choose the networked model when monitoring is part of the project.
The reviewed PDU sheets do not publish a numerical metering-accuracy specification. Choose the display for load management rather than a claimed precision ranking.
Switched pick: PDU41001
The PDU41001 is the pick for the box that occasionally stops responding while everything around it is fine. Its eight front outlets can be switched individually or together, with on, off and reboot actions available through the management interface.
It also displays PDU voltage, current and power. Treat that as monitoring of the PDU’s combined load; individual outlet control is the feature to buy here, not an assumption of per-outlet energy reporting.
Does it work without a cloud account?
Yes: the documented local route uses the PDU’s own web interface and device login. Connect Ethernet, open the PDU’s address in your browser and authenticate to the device. CyberPower’s user manual, Remote Management section describes that process, while the model sheet lists HTTPS, SSH and SNMPv3.
Update the firmware, change the default credentials and use the encrypted management options. Keep the interface on a management network rather than publishing it directly to the internet. For remote access, use the approach in our Tailscale vs Cloudflare Tunnel guide.
Label outlets before testing them. Try the reboot command with a spare lamp first, then verify that only the intended outlet cycles. Use a normal OS restart first; a hard power cycle is the last resort because it can interrupt writes. Keep the switch or router carrying your management connection powered while you recover the troublesome box. Set the box’s AC-power recovery option so it starts again when power returns; our headless boot and power-recovery guide covers that step.
Mini-rack pick: Tupavco TP1713
A 19-inch PDU does not become a 10-inch accessory just because both say “1U.” Rack units describe height; the rail width still has to match.
The TP1713 is the smaller-rack choice: four outlets, a six-foot cord and a 10-inch, 1U mounting format documented by Tupavco. It gives a mini PC, small switch and their power bricks a neater home without hanging a full-width strip off the side.
Choose it for physical fit and simple distribution. If you need network switching in a mini rack, leave space for a separately supported control solution rather than expecting the TP1713 to supply those features. Our small-rack and shelving guide covers the wider 10-inch versus 19-inch decision.
How much can one 15A circuit carry?
For a standard 80%-rated breaker, plan continuous loads—three hours or more—at 80% of the rating, as Schneider Electric explains.
For this illustrative 15A circuit at 120V, the calculation is:
- Continuous current: 15A × 0.8 = 12A.
- Apparent power at that current: 120V × 12A = 1,440 VA.
- Real power: VA × power factor, giving 1,440 W at PF 1, or 1,296 W at an assumed PF 0.9.
| Example current | Apparent power at 120V | Real power at assumed PF 0.9 |
|---|---|---|
| 2A | 240 VA | 216 W |
| 6A | 720 VA | 648 W |
| 12A | 1,440 VA | 1,296 W |
Those are calculated examples, not measured rack loads. The limit belongs to the whole branch circuit, including other equipment on it. Ten outlets do not give you ten separate current allowances, and a 20A PDU cannot turn a 15A supply into a larger circuit.
Keep the lowest applicable limit in charge: the circuit, UPS output, PDU and connected equipment. On the wall side, include the UPS’s own losses and battery recharging. On the load side, keep both watts and VA inside the UPS’s ratings.
Where does the PDU go relative to the UPS?
The useful arrangement is wall supply → UPS → approved PDU → protected equipment. CyberPower documents the unfiltered basic and metered models for UPS distribution, and its switched-PDU manual also describes connecting to UPS power.
Use the exact UPS manufacturer’s permitted downstream arrangement. The TP1713’s mini-rack fit and overload protection do not make it the default UPS expansion choice; the unfiltered CyberPower models are the UPS-distribution picks in this shortlist. Do not cascade power strips or feed the UPS through another strip.
Connect the PDU to a battery-backed output if its equipment needs to stay running during an outage. Size the UPS for the combined connected load, then configure shutdown before the battery is exhausted. Our UPS sizing and graceful-shutdown guide covers that plan; the small-rack UPS buying guide connects it to specific models.
Keep the two controls separate: the PDU distributes or switches power; the UPS/NUT setup tells the NAS or server to shut down cleanly. A reboot button cannot replace that conversation.
Put the readings on a dashboard
For the PDU41001, CyberPower documents SNMPv1 and SNMPv3, plus importing its MIB into SNMP management software. That gives you a local monitoring route alongside the web console.
Home Assistant’s SNMP integration supports SNMP sensors, including version 3 authentication, units and value templates. Use the maker’s MIB for the appropriate power/current OID and its scaling, then compare the dashboard reading with the PDU display. Start with read-only monitoring; keep outlet switching a deliberate action.
The amps-only PDU15M2F8R does not acquire SNMP because it has a display. Choose the PDU41001 when you want that network connection and a history you can use to spot a changing rack baseline.
Fit it once, label it well
Measure rail width, usable depth and clearance for the plugs behind the unit. Put large power bricks where they will not block neighbouring outlets, and leave a gentle cable bend rather than trapping cords against a rack door.
Mount the PDU securely, label each cord and outlet, and record a normal-load reading. Add the equipment you expect to run together, watch the combined load, and test both the intended outlet control and UPS shutdown path while you are there to observe them.
PDU15B2F8R keeps power tidy. PDU15M2F8R adds a useful amps display. PDU41001 adds local monitoring and remote reboot. TP1713 fits the 10-inch rack. Buy the function you will use, then let the rack get on with its actual jobs.
